As expected, Macklemore’s new single, “White Privilege II,” in which he addresses his belief that “silence is an action” concerning his and other white entertainers’ lack of support and contribution to issues that matter to black people, despite being very much a part of black culture. So far, Iggy Azalea has responded, Macklemore talked to prominenet #BlackLivesMatter activist DeRay Mckesson about the song, and he opened up to Rolling Stone about his intentions behind the record. Add white rapper Machine Gun Kelly to the list of people that have publicly reacted to the record.
TMZ caught up with Kelly at the airport and asked him about the song, leading with an opinion that the Cleveland native is one of the greatest white rappers of all time, to which MGK responded he’s a great rapper not a great white rapper. When the pap continued to try to elicit an answer from Kelly, MGK finally offered his opinion of the situation, saying that “race is not an issue, race is an issue for people like Macklemore,” without elaborating on what “people like Macklemore” meant. He declined to comment much more, opting instead to finish listening to the Rolling Stones.
