Macklemore Discusses “White Privilege II,” White Guilt, Iggy Azalea & More On Sway In The Morning

Last week, Macklemore released a new record titled “White Privilege II,” which sparked much debate on the web, both positive and negative. On the song, the west coast MC delved into topics such as white supremacy and how for the most part, whites having an easier time in American society. He also name checked people such as Elvis Presley, Miley Cyrus and Iggy Azalea, when highlighting how whites have benefited from appropriating black culture.

For what its worth, Iggy Azalea took to her twitter account and blasted Macklemore for mentioning her in the song, which led to her having a heated back and forth with Talib Kweli on the social media platform. Macklemore recently stopped by Sway In The Morning and shed some light on the topic, as well as clarified his stance on Azalea.

That whole verse is me implicating myself, I think a lot of people have misinterpreted it. We’re all in the same place, we’re all in the same sphere. We’re white artists that in the last couple of years have been rightfully critiqued for appropriating black culture and benefiting from it. I’m putting myself in the exact same box as them.
